Construction (Carpentry/Electrical)

Year 1 Construction:

Construction I is an instructional program that prepares an individual for employment or continued education in the occupations of Carpentry, Electrical Wiring, Masonry, or Plumbing. Year 1 Construction is a basic course teaching fundamentals of safety, tools, math, and basic carpentry, electrical, masonry, and plumbing skills.
 

Year 2 Construction Pathways :

Construction II is a continuation of Year 1  and provides advanced instruction and practical applications in Carpentry or Electrical.  
 
This curriculum has been aligned to modules in the Contren Learning Series as endorsed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Students who study this curriculum using the Contren Learning Series materials under the supervision of an instructor who has been certified by the NCCER are eligible to be tested on each module. Students who successfully pass these tests may be certified to the NCCER by the instructor and will receive documentation from NCCER.
 
 Required Supplies:  Laptop, Pencil, Notebook, Closed Toe Shoes, Work Attire.

Shop Fee:  $25.00 (PLEASE PAY WITH SCHOOL BUCKS ONLINE. NO CHECKS ACCEPTED). This will cover the cost of project materials, safety glasses, gloves, and equipment upkeep.

Student Organization:  Skills USA Annual Dues, $15.00 per student. (PLEASE PAY ONLINE WITH SCHOOL BUCKS)
Grading Scale:
                Class Work / Participation:       40%
                Performance Tests / Chapter and Module Tests:        60%
 
Safety:  
The safety of your student is of our utmost concern. Each student will undergo a strenuous basic safety program of study and must pass the NCCER Safety Exam with a score of 100% before entrance into the shop/ lab is allowed. No student at anytime will be allowed entrance into the shop/lab without the presence and supervision of the Construction instructor. Safety glasses are required and must be worn at all times in the shop/lab and must not be removed for any reason. Hard hats will be worn as applicable. Certain clothing and jewelry are not allowed in the shop/lab as they may cause a safety issue, likewise certain clothing is required, (ie.), closed toe shoes, long pants and work aprons. Equipment operation will only be done under direct supervision of the instructor.
